Hi collinsc if you are not renewing norton you will have to remove it from your system ,any other antivirus software that you install will conflict with it best to remove it properly with the removel tool.

Try AVG Anti-Virus I think that must be about the most popular free one.click here

collinsc
I have just got rid of Norton as it was due for renewal.
Used the Symantec removal tool without any problem.
Now using AVG free and am trying the PCTools Firewall Plus. Both seem OK. The PcTools for a while flagged up a lot of warnings re so and so attemting to connect to the internet, but as you gradually allow all the regulars the warnings reduce.
Also use SpySweeper.
One immediate affect is that boot up time is down from nearly four minutes to under two and the PC is much faster.
I was hesitant, but--go for it.

Just unistalled Norton because of the the amount of resources it was consuming, and installed AVG and COMODO firewall both very good and seem to have a far smaller footprint than norton. COMODO also do a free antispyware app. don't know if anyone's tried it?
