Do I need a Hosts file?

As in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

I am running another thread because AVG showed a ‘read error’.

Then I discovered the file is no longer there.

I have looked at various articles and I think I can get Spybot to create/recreate this file, but there are potential pitfalls.

It would appear the file is not essential but is there a security issue involved?

The HOSTS file isn't essential, but it is a very useful tool for blocking access to unwanted or undesirable sites click here
