Do I need a firewall ?

Just getting my new PC up and running (Vista 32bit), and I've installed AVG 8 as my anti virus software.

Been looking for a firewall to go with it, and I've previously used Zone Alarm, although reviews suggest the latest version for Vista is pretty terrible.

So, I'm thinking I may stick with the standard Windows firewall shipped with Vista - in your opinion, is this adequate or is it better to have a 'commercial' version installed?

I know this is down to opinion, but I'd really appreciate what you think.

If you connect through a router, that has its own built-in firewall.

The only Firewall I use is the Router one but that only stops Incoming not Outgoing. On my XP computers I also use Free Avast AV.

If you are on BB your standard firewall will be more than enough. Put on an anti-spy programme such as Spyware Terminator or spybot and use common sense. No firewall or AV will protect you if you give a programme permission to run.

ps..as others have said, if you have a router, the in-built firewall will be more than enough If you are a home user you would be wasting money if you paid for any 'security'.
