Do I have a Boot Sector virus?

Any help please. Despite reformatting my HD a total of three times now, I am unable to successfully install any antivirus software. Whe I install it, it fails to instal properly and denies me access to the internet, control panel and any number of other apps, and also when I reboot my firewall (Ashampoo) is not loaded. I have been told that boot sector viruses are rare, but is it possible I have one? If so, how can I clean it?

Many thanks, any help will be very much apreciated as this problem is begining to dominate my life...

Thanks VoG, I have successfully re-written the MBR using the info you gave me, will I now need to reformat and reinstal as I am still being denied access to the same areas as before which means I cannot uninstal the antivirus that is causing the problem.
