dll problem, I think!

Here's a problem I've been having recently when using Magix Audio Cleaning Lab to copy records for subsequent 'burning' to CD.
The record or tape records ok but when I try to make a copy in WAV or WMA format prior to burning 'on-the-fly' the process gets about 70% complete and then the computer switches off, it doesn't 'crash' in the usual way, no BS of D, it just switches off - no error message when re-starting either.
The log in Administrators Tools says the file name is sxs.dll and the source SideBySide with the symbolic name MSG_SXS_FUNCTION_CALL_FAIL. From Microsoft's Knowledge Base it would seem this is some sort of buffer over-flow protection but there is no information as to how to fix the problem.
System in use, Win XP Pro, RAM 1Gb, hard drive 120Gb, processor AMD Athalon 64, 3200+
Any help gratefully received.
