Display problem

After changing the hard drive from 6 gig to 20 gig and changing the screen to 15inch on my hp omnibook xe3, xp now appears on 2/3 of my screen and the bottom half has a white line running through it with xp again displayed. Cannot change it to take up the full screen. Is it an adapter problem, hard drive problem ,monitor problem or chip problem. HPs web site did help much as the adapters I tried did nothing to increase it to full monitor size.
Any help would be very gratfull.

most 15' crt monitors can safely display 800x600 @85hz so try this.

right click the desktop/properties/settings and select 800x600 and click apply. click the advanced tab and click monitor. tick the 'hide modes this monitor cannot display' box and then choose the highest setting shown and click apply.

ps. are your graphics card drivers installed?
