This takes forever to complete, is it because of the format?
Can XP be changed to NTFS without re-installing?
If it's not the file system, what can slow DKLite to hours when the HDD is clean of rubbish and not many programs installed?
Any advice welcome, thanks in advance.

Forgot to add: even when the Analysis shows minimal fragmentation, it still takes forever to complete.

I shouldnt think so, no.

Yes, using the convert.exe command
To convert a FAT partition to NTFS, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
2. At the command prompt, type CONVERT driveletter: /FS:NTFS.
3. Convert.exe attempts to convert the partition to NTFS.

Antivirus program? Windows Indexing Service? or just badly fragmented.

Try running your chosen defragmentation program from Windows Safe Mode

DK is fast on my NTFS PC but really slow on the FAT32 machine.

It is possible to convert without data loss but it is not something I have done, yet! click here

Thanks guys. The HDD is minimal fragments and has taken almost 10 mins to go from 13 to 15%!
I will try in safe mode later and check what else is running, when it has finally finished. Thanks for the tips. May consider changing the file system later if unresolved.
