I have an ACER laptop running Vista Home Premium. My C Drive properties shows 33gb of 65gb in use but in Windows Explorer the total folder sizes come to about 16gb. Where has the other 17gb gone?

System Restore Backup Files. If your Laptop is working OK you could turn off System Restore to clear the backups then turn it back on for it to create a new backup point. You could also turn Restore off on other partitions and set the C:\ Operating System Partition to 8% of drive. this will stop it using too much space

Thanks woodchip. Done the first bit and seems to have recovered disk space but how do you set the operating pation to 8% of the drive? My drive is partitioned into C & D at about 60gb each. I use C for Windows and progrmmes, about 2ogb so far, and D for my data.

In Restore click Settings then click the C:\ drive and change it to 8%. As I said before turn Restore off on other Partitions as you will only have problems with the C:\ partition
