Disk I/O error

On bootup I get the message

Disk I/O error

Using a startup floppy I can get to see a list of the folders on the C drive, some of which I need.

I'm sure I can probably FDISK and FORMAT the hard drive and load Windows 95 back on (it's a very old machine) but I'd like to ba able to save some of the data first if possible.

Is there anytihng I can do without having to format and load Windows again?

It's possibly a dead CMOS battery. Boot into setup and check your settings, in particular your HDD settings.

If your settings are OK then boot from your start-up floppy and at the A:\ prompt type "sys c:" without the quotes.
