Disk Failure

I run XP and have 2 MAXTOR (IDE) 120 GB drives which are not mirrored and had no warning signs of failure until I tried to save a file I was working on. The failed drive allows me to open files but not save - I get the error message. The other drive is fine. I have backed up to a WD external drive but have some recent files that are not backed-up. I read somewhere that sometimes viruses can alter the connectivity of drives and wondered if that might be the problem. I use AOL which so far has been pretty good for security. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Garce

I'm no expert on matters like this, but I would ask if you've run your anti virus since the problem arose. Hopefully a better qualified person will help. Unfortunately England's match is still on

Have a read of this, then run chkdsk as per note 4b, fixes minor disk problems ... click here

NOTE - Change C: to whatever drive letter is applicable in your case.

Thanks Technotiger, I'm running a virus check at the moment but will do as you suggest.
