disk drive icon missing

  Marko797 13:36 17 Feb 08

I have a second hard drive which is partitioned into 2, named 'old c', and 'old d'.

I can see a normal disk icon for 'old c' but not for 'old d'. It used to be there but has disappeared for some reason, and now I have an icon which is one of those 'not associated with any programme' types.

Does anyone know how I can get the disk icon back?
I'm on XP SP2 by the way.
Many thanks.

I would boot into the bios and check that the hard drive has been recognised in the bios. If not windows will never see it. If not seen by the bios run the auto detect bios feature.

Look in the root of the d drive for autorun.inf and delete it if it exists.

but Howard, the drive is just a partitioned section of one hard drive. It's split 'old c' and 'old d'. Old C has the icon, but not 'old d'. Not too happy abt going into the bios :(

Brundle, I'll check out the root. Thnx.

if a hard drive has been correctly partitioned then the partitions will appear to the bios as separate hard drives such as C: and E: for example. If not seen by the bios windows cannot see it as far as I am told.
