On my Disc O which has a capacity of 279.4GB it is partitioned as follows
Recovery 4.40GB Fat Healthy
Windows C 148 42 GB NTFS Healthy
Unallocated 126.66GB

would someone please explain in simple terms how i go about merging the Unallocated space into the 148.42 of Windows c NTFS

The `Unallocated` space is an unformatted partition of the drive. You need to go into `Disk Management` and Format it to make it usable. Right click the space and follow the Wizard.

This will give you a separately identified partition. If you wish to merge it with `C` you either need to delete `C` as a partition (not recommended as it will require a full installation of everything on it again) or use proprietary software like Partition Magic click here to achieve the task.

if you have xp sp2 you can go into - control panel - administration - computer management - disk management and format the unallocated section and simply use it as an additional drive.
