Disc fault or computer fault

  FreddyNoFriends 21:58 22 Apr 08

Hi all

I recently bought Assassins Creed for PC on DVD ROM, however, when I try to install it, I get the following error messages;

“Feature Transfer Error
New Feature 1
Component; Data
File: I:\data3.cab
Error: Data error (cycle redundancy check)

I’ve tried installing it in both drives on my computer several times but nothing seems to work.
From what I’ve read on the internet there is some suggestion this may be a problem with the batch of DVD discs, though other comments I've read suggest it may be something to do with DVD drives, out of date firmware, etc.
Obviously all I want to do is install and run this game - can anyone advise me whether it's the game at fault or my computer?

Can you copy the entire DVD contents to a folder on your computer and install from there? Or do you get the same errors? Try it with YCopy and look at the error log - click here

this will explain the error message, as for a resolve, not sure...

File: I:\data3.cab

this message sort of confirms issues shown in first link, Dirty or corrupt disc.

Polish the CD,
and run a ens cleaner through the drive, or try installing from another drive.

A Data error (cycle redundancy check) may also be a memory problem, (as I found out with a new build a few months ago).

Try installing with one module only, (in slot No1), and then the other.

Thanks all.
Some of the gaming sites I've visited suggest the batch of game discs sent out was dodgy, and as all replies here so far seem to be saying it's a disc issue, I guess that might the problem.
But I'll have a go at copying the disc to a hard drive and installing from there - thanks brundle - and see what happens.

Have run YCopy and CD Check. YCopy couldnt copy all the files and CD Check tells me that data3.cab and data4.cab files are missing from the DVD.
I guess that means it's corrupted.
Thanks for the help everyone - I guess it's a trip to the post office tomorrow to return the disk...
