Disc Boot Failure

In the last 3 to 4 weeks my system has failed to boot at least on 30% during startup sequence. I use XP Pro. The error message is "DISK BOOT FAILURE. ENTER START UP DISK & PRESS ENTER.

My MS DOS Disk usually gets me going re Command. Com, although sometimes this takes several attempts to rectify totally.

I an concerned that eventually I will be unable to boot up at all.

Can anyone please advise me of a permanent solution?

Many thanks

Mike

It sounds as though your hard drive may be on the way out, try running Scandisk to check your drive for bad sectors, I'm sure that some of the more knowledgeable forum members will be able to point you to a more reliable disk checking utility.

is this an upgrade or a was XP installed when you bought the machine? Did you format the drive with c: /s" so
that a copy of command.com is on the hard drive?
