Disappearing toolbars in XP Pro SP2

Here's an odd one.

I've trawled through the archive but have found nothing that directly corresponds.

On some boot ups, I find my Quick Launch toolbar and my custom one (Control Panel) have disappeared.

When I press the Start button the program list on the left is black. I also cannot get into the Program link.

Now if I re-boot, it is often sorted.

In response. I run Kaspersky (all the time) Anti Virus, I've Spybotted, Ad Awared, and also run Kaspersky Anti Hacker (all the time).

I've just used Spybots excellent feature to clear out the System Startup folder too.

I don't know whether it's related, but FireFox comes up with a warning about a 'script slowing its response down'.

Thoughts anyone?

Have y ou tried the system file checker

sfc /scannow

Thanks DS, yes I did that as well.

Does SFC ever leave a log file? It's hard to know whether it's actually replaced anything.

Thats one way of looking for the culprit (other than the one typing of course).
