Disabling System Restore

  Gordon Comstock 20:35 28 May 04

I've just disabled System Restore on my WinMe system.

On rebooting I've gained an extra 3Gb of HD space!

I have used System Restore in the past and it has never fixed any problem I was encountering.

I went to use it yesterday and there were no Restore Points. Useless!

The _Restore folder was huge on right clicking but inside the folder were only 4 items, a few hundred kb in size. On looking at it with Directory Snoop there was a Temp folder, invisible in Windows, that contained huge files with a .cpy extension.

As I've always found SR useless and just clawed back 3GB can anyone see any problem in disabling it?

Is System Restore any use?

click here as for you having no restore points they are all deleted along with any trojans that tend to hide in your volume info folders the link might give you a better insight to what restore realy does
