Hello, i have got a laptop running windows xp home edition with a 2,2ghz P4 Processor, 512mb Ram and a Radeon 7500 graphics card with 64mb external memory.
At the moment i am using the preinstalled directx 8.1, i am considering installing directx 9 but i have heard that there won't be any improvement in performance because (unlike the latest cards like Radeon 9500, 9700)the radeon 7500 isn't designed for directx 9 and therefore installing directx9 won't be of any benefit and may even lead to stability problems. Is this true or would installing directx9 improve the performance?

If it does improve performance you will not see it. I had DX9 installed and had no problems although that was with a Geforce4 Ti4600. My benchmark score went up 300, in the games i did not see any difference in gameplay.

Okay so if your benchmark went up then directx9 can slightly improve the performance of graphic cards designed for directx8?

Yes it went up, but at the end of it all it's what you see on your screen. To me there was no difference.

Also the benchmark of an extra 300 compared to an overall mark of 11000 - If it improved the mark buy 500 or 1000 then you probably will see a difference in the game but i did not.

So yes it can slighty improve.
