Digital video editing

Have bought Panasonic NVGS50 (PC Advisor chart topping Digital camcorder). Cannot get it to make connection to PC with firewire cable. When launching Pinnacle Studio 8 keep getting message Cannot initialise DV capture device, Turn camcorder off/on, disconnect & reconnect 1394 cable, restart windows. Have tried all of these numerous times to no effect.
DV camera connects fine via USB cable allowing capture of stills from card and stills from video.
Instruction booklet has nothing about connecting to PC via firewire 1394 cable, only USB connection for importing still pictures or using as web camera, and using DV cable for digital dubbing with other digital video equipment (camera).
Can anyone out there help???

Video is a specialised topic, where as this is an excellent but general forum.

If you are new to Video, then I feel i should point out that Studio 8 does not run smoothly on all machines. You could do worse than try some trial versions of other editing software. Making sure you uninstall each before placing another on your machine. To uninstall Studio fully, however, you will need to visit the Pinnacle site and get yourself a copy of there "uninstaller". Which beggers the question, what kind of software is it?

Good luck and have fun.
