I have the stereo above with digital out, does that mean I could connect it to a digital I/O connector on a soundcard and play audio off my PC or does it only mean that the info goes 'out' of the Hi-Fi onto the PC for recording purposes?

Probably a stupid Q!

You will need a digital "IN" on Hi-fi to play Digital music

On the positive side you could record DAB onto your PC but you'd need to have the right connectors on both - it'll either be SPDIF (a coaxial connector)or TOSLINK (Optical)

Even with analogue connectors PC audio through decent amp/speakers still sounds pretty good if you have HD sound on the PC.
