Digital camera problem in Win XP

Trying to add Ricoh RDC 5000 digital camera to Win XP as imaging device using usb cable. XP finds device ok and when i install drivers (which are for win 2000 according to Ricoh help page) it loads driver ok then says "Found new hardware Ricoh scsi device". I have no scsi drives but if i do not try to load this XP states device not loaded and does not work. However if i do try to load this driver XP just shuts down and reboots with camera not detected. When i look for camera in device manager as an imaging device it is not there however for some reason it is listed as a universal serial bus controller. What on earth am i doing wrong? Any help greatly appreciated. Sorry to have gone on so long...... Camera not shown as removable storage device in Control Panel either...

If I have said this once... use a card reader! Don't connect a digital camera to your PC!
