Difference in Hard Disk Space

Hi,

I have noticed something odd.

When I right click on my C: drive to see the available space, it says I have used 18.4GB and hence only have 545MB free.

However, last time I checked this, I had only used around 10Gb.

If you select all the files and folders, and do right click and Properties, you get 8.37 Gb which sounds about right.

Any ideas what the "invisible" thing is thats taking up all my space?

CHeers.

Have you tried going to TOOLS > FOLDER OTIONS > VIEW and selecting View Hidden Files, then checking the total file size?

Hi,

Yes, i tried that and still only got 8.4GB.

This extra 10Gb being used up is really bugging me!

Have you ever setup a secure drive?

If "yes" then remember that the secure drive will be hidden until you access it (usually with a password) but the OS will still report the actual disk data.

If "no" then I suggest you run a complete disk cleanup followed by a disk check (chkdsk c:/r)

Let us know the result after the disk check.

Hi,

I ran a simple scandisk check and 10Gb was freed!

Cheers!
