Dial up password keeps changing

I have a client who is still using dial up using Waitrose as isp. IE6 on Windows XP. Suddenly getting a problem in that whenever he tries to connect, the password appears to have chnaged, with multiple spots in teh password box. Rubbing out the spots and entering the correct password achieves nothing. He has to uncheck the 'remember password' box, then enter the right password, then recheck the box. That works BUT, next time, its back to square one. It appears that something is stopping, or is over riding the password storage. Spybot has revealed nothing, neither has a complete scanin safe mode using AVG. Any ideas?

Perhaps he should create the dial up again and delete the old one - seems it's got corrupted.
