Now in Device manager i have 2standard k/boards and 2 Direct Memory access controllers and yes one of each has the little yellow sticker against it, but if i remove one when i reboot windows put it back on again and this is what it says in System Info obviously referring to the yellow ones

Remove BOTH of the problem items, then hopefully Windows will just make a single detection when it restarts.

Try removing both it should only load one

- what is a Direct Memory Access Controller??

  woodchip 23:28 08 Oct 03

It's like a manager of your memory, it allocates memory

DMA is a way in which some parts of the system can talk directly to the memory, without having to go through the processor and some software. So it's used for devices that benefit from fast access to the memory, such as Hard Disks (to put it simplyish)

wonderful - k/board sailed thro like a dream, the DMA dagged its feet a bit but made it in the end Thanks a bunch - nooooow about DirectX or should that be in a new post >-)
