Device driver problems, but which ones?

  HAYESBOY 07:59 04 Oct 03

I am trying to play games on my new computer which has a spec of : P4, 2.66Ghz, 512mb DDR, 40GB hd, FX5200 128MB card, ASUS 9520.
I have downloaded all updates from Windows and all the latest drivers from the NVidia site. I also have a C-MEDIA AC-97 sound software loaded and also, i have dowloaded the latest drivers from the web site.
When i play certain games, i get an error mesage and a request to send an error report to Microsoft, which only sometimes directs me to an internet page that tells me that i have a "device driver" problem.
How do i find this driver(s) that is causing so much grief?
Thanks for any help in advance.

Sorry forgot to add that i am running XP home and that the error messages are something like "CM4 or Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down".
Again i would be really grateful for any help.
