I have tried evrything i can think of to remove it ive been to M$ site but there doesnt seem to be anything there, theres no uninstaller in Add/Remove progs, and i have now run out of space on my HD [ I only have 20mb left]

you may only have the references (during bootup) for two copies XPs. Have you tried to boot to both of them?

If you do not actually have two copies of XP, you cannot get ride of reference point easily, but it will not save you any space.

If you actually have two copies, the only way is to format HDD and reinstall.

please BACKUP all your stuff before you do anything.
