Do you have onboard sound (if any) disabled?

HAve you got latest mobo drivers?

Do you feel up to a clean install of XP? That might be a way of eliminating problems.

i did a clean install a week ago with new hdd

What about a clean install with onboard sound disabled; then install the card and then install the drivers for it?

  bremner 20:04 16 Jan 05

As Diodorus Siculus says if you haven't disabled the on board sound in the BIOS this will conflict with the installed Sound Card.

Also have you installed the latest drivers for the card.

the onboard sound is disabled and the latest drivers installed another clean install will be tried before spending any money

Have you done a google search for any known issues with your sound drivers and your OS?

Make sure DMA is enabled on the new drive, click here for instructions.

already done

Have you updated DirectX? Try running dxdiag and check for any problems in there.
