Can anyone help. I am getting loads of pop-ups..some of them of a sexual or dating nature. Quite often I don't even realise there are there, they might be 'behind' the page I am using. It is only when I close it all down there might be of the things! I notice in my 'title' bar, sometimes it has desktop smiley as a search engine logo. I have not idea what is going on. I have put onto my system spybot S&D and spywareblaster. But whatever it is still getting thru. I have mcaffe suite running on my pc. please help.

It would be worth ensuring you don't have the Windows Messenger causing trouble too. (Ignore this if you are using Vista.)

Quick fix is 'Shoot the Messenger' click here

Have a look at this; click here

Forget about the hijackthis but scroll down to see the list of what you need to remove from control panel's add/remove.
Then start up in safemode ( click here ) and run superantispyware. Link given in previous post.
Reboot and run Malwarebytes, link also posted previously. Important to get rid of messenger as per accordion's post.

Should have added that some PCs use F5 to get to safemode.

Done as VoG said...great ....spotted all the smiley and 'fun' websites....and quaranteened it. Also installed 'pop-up blocker' v.6 which puts a yellow smiley face on the task bar...not too sure about that. However....still getting pop ups..not as many granted....but still getting them....still no luck with the malwarebytes...keeps wanting me to purchase...why on earth am I still getting this....now can't get flashplayer to work! - in a right pickle.

It might be worth having a specialist look at what's going on, you may have spyware or malware pm your system.

To get some expert help on cleaning your system, you could register and post a HijackThis log at Virus Vault. click here
