Desktop showing small areas of wrong colour

Using Windows 8 and Nvidia GTX660. Using a windows 'theme' as desktop

Sometimes on my desktop I see small random rectangles or squares of the wrong colour displayed. I can't work out at what stage they appear, but I can easily get rid of them by switching to another theme and then immediately returning to the original.

This doesn't happen anywhere else but on the Windows desktop.

However, I have a need to know what is causing this, in case I need to have a component replaced on warranty.

Any suggestions?

Peter - haven't come across this before but take a look here to see if there is anything that helps - enter link description here

I couldn't find anything that even approached what I'm describing. The place that built my PC is baffled by it too.

Does your PC have an on board video? If so, I would try it on that to eliminate (or not) the graphics card.
