I tidied up my desktop yesterday and got rid of a lot of old shortcuts on it.Went in to the re cycle bin and clicked on empty recycle bin.I have just done a system restore and all the shortcuts have re-appeared the desktop is as it was yesterday morning so have had to do it all again. Is this normal

Desktop shortcuts will reappear after a System Restore so what you've found is completely normal.

It's always good practise to manually set a new Restore Point after you have made significant changes to your system. Had you done so the old shortcuts would not have reappeared.

Hi chub_tor when I had XP doing a restore seemed simple but now have what is the best way to do a system restore on Windows 7.On XP I could choose a date but not it seems with Windows 7

When you get the point where you choose a restore point there is a "tick box" at the bottom left corner of the main box which gives you more restore points to choose from.
