Desktop right-click menu problem

My wife has just bought an Advent 7096 laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2. She sometimes has a problem when she right-clicks on an item in the system tray, or an open window, and then selects an item from the dropdown menu. The right-click menu goes transparent and, once she has selected the item, the rest of the menu disappears (as it should do) but the selected item from the menu (still transparent) stays on the desktop until she reboots. Whatever action she selected is carried out with no problem. This only happens when the right-click menu goes transparent, which is only occasionally.

Not really serious, but an annoyance. Any ideas anyone?

it could be your hardware acceleration. Try moving the slider to a lower position. Right click empty spot on desktop - properties - settings - advanced - troubleshooting.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've dropped it a notch. Obviously, as it's an intermittent problem, it will be a little while before I know whether it's worked.
