I want to Xfer all the files in My Documents on my desktop onto my laptop. Can I do this with a double A ended USB cord?

Do not use normal cable, you will fire both computers.

Never done it before but I presume that it works one way therefore a specific end goes into the desktop and the other end into the laptop. Will the laptop under Plug n Play then see the drives on the Desktop?

(1) install software come with cable (2) plug cable in desktop and laptop (you have to install software first)

now you have two PCs network together, data transfer cannot get any easier

alternatively, you can get a usb pen drive (memory stick)

There is 3.5 Gb of data that I want to xfer so this looks like the quickest/cheapest way to do it.
