Is it possible to hide the desktop icons and show them when required?

I have XP. Any suggestions ?

Right-click on desktop, New, Folder. Name the folder Desktop Icons, or Ernest, or anything you want! Drag the Icons into the folder. When you want one, open the folder.

If you don't have that many Desktop icons, you could make each icon a quick launch button on the task bar. Set the taskbar to auto-hide and whenever you want to open an application, just hover over the taskbar and select the relavent quick launch button.

Thanks for your help. I'm left with "My Computer" and "Refuse Bin" which won't transfer but I can live with that.
