I've just re-installed Windows XP, and everything is fine except for this. It doesn't change when I play a DVD either, and people look very tall and skinny! I can't find any option to change it, either in Display or in PowerDVD's options.

So, how do I expand my display to fill the whole screen?

You need to change the alignement (I can't spell.... lol) for your VDU (your Moniter)

Ah, I see! Just use the controls on the front of the monitor? Or is there a menu built into Windows for this?

Changing the refresh rate from 60 to 75Hz has sorted it. I hadn't realised that Windows would settle for 60Hz. I thought Red Alert 2 looked flickery! Cheers, anyway.
