help

we have a dell dimension 8300 with a
teac dvd+rw dv w58E drive.

cd's and dvd films play but we have an error playing dvd roms.

The disc isn't recognised when inserted.
The pc asks to insert a disc?

Dell have been unhelpful. The games are new and they work in a different computor. So i believe it is a drive problem. Any ideas please?

thanks

Try cleaning both the disc and the lens using a cleaning kit. You can get them for a couple of quid.

If this doesn't help, you may need to replace the drive. If it's under guarantee Dell should do this for you. If not it's fairly easy. Post back for help.

Just a thought. The other computer you play them in. It is a PC and not say a Mac?

Dell say other discs work so this isn't their problem ! I'll try a cleaning kit but any other ideas?
