Dell Modem Problem.

  Legslip 17:27 26 Oct 04

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop and the modem seems to have clapped out. The modem (ActionTec MD560RD) is a small internal card about the size of a first class stamp. Dell are not interested in supplying a replacement modem, they refer you to a supply company who will send a recon/2nd hand one for about £60. So much for after sales support!!

Are there other ways to connect? What does a PCMIA card do? Will this do the job?

A PCMIA card is simply an interface, like a USB port, ethernet etc. etc. I used to have an older Dell Latitude laptop which connected to 'dial up' via the PCMIA card. If you have either of the above 'onboard' then they (especially USB) will be able to do what the PCMIA did and more besides.

Consequently, the answer is yes it will!
