My son's Dell Laptitude c600 keeps freezing. He'll be working away, or surfing when the program he is using becomes unresponsive; from the start menu it’s possible to use other programs as normal as if nothing has happened. When you open task manager it states the program is running normally until you try to end the task the it comes up with the standard 'this programme is not responding' He tells me that just before a program freezes the monitor screen blanks for an instant.

Its running XP home SP2 with a 750GHz Pentium 3 and 256MB ram with a 20GB hard drive

It also seems to get quite hot, although Sisoftware Sandra shows the fan and CPU working Ok

Any Ideas

try slowing down the hardware acceleration - if this is possible it will be in screen properties - settings - advanced - adaptor.
