Dell Inspiron 1525 Freezing

  spud10 15:19 30 Aug 08

I have a strange problem with a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with 2Gb of ram and running Windows Vista Home Premium. The laptop freezes after 10 minutes even when its idle. It has up to date anti virus, spyware and firewall programs.
I tried several times to use safe mode to run spyware scanners, antivirus programs but the laptop freezes and I have to power down to reset.
On one occasion I got safe mode to load and tried to run a spyware scanner but it also locked up.
The laptop is only 4 months old with very little additional software installed.
Is it a problem with a corrupt OS or do I have a problem with the hard drive.

I think it's overheating. Having said that, it's new..Take it back :))

Thanks for the help. I can hear the fan turning on and off. Is this normal for a laptop or should the fan be running all the time.

That is a sign of overheating...I wouldn't mess with it, if it was out of warranty I could make a few suggestions, but really....Take it back.

Have a happy retirement, Crosstrainer. (I can thoroughly recommend it!)
