Dell Dimension 5000 won't load

  PeterL1 11:42 21 Dec 09

Over the last week or so it has taken a while to come to life. Today it froze so tried a reload. Got a screen saying BIOS version etc. and 'Floppy diskette seek failure'
'Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-2@
'Drive 3 not found: Parallel ATA, PATA-1 (PR1 IDE Slave)'
Attempted F2 and F12 to try to solve problem but each time got a high pitched 'bleep' and reverted to page as above.

Try taking the battery out from the mother board, leave it for a couple of mins and put it back which could reset it or replace the battery as it may be running low causing confusion in the bios.

take the side off the case and check the cables firstly. unplug all the drives and just plug in the drive you want to boot off e.g. just the hard disk drive.
have you a spare power supply or any other spare stuff?

could just be a loose cable or a failing harddrive

Thank you both, jiggling the various cables seems to have done the trick.
