Hi hope someone can offer some advice. I have a pent 4 dell desktop which has decided it doesnt want to start up. I have swapped power leads and still nothing after looking inside i noted that a green light was on on the mother board so assume power is getting there. The button on the front just isnt activating the unit.
i have been told by my partner that she recently noted the pc was trying to start up on its own!!!! but switching down almost instantly hence the reason she pulled plug out of wall.
is it something simple????? help

If you are happy about using a multimeter, there are some checks click here

Though the Motherboard light is on it means nothing, your first check should be a new Power Supply of at least same Watts.

You could check for muck round CPU heatsink Fan

"noted the pc was trying to start up on its own but switching down almost instantly"

Classic signs of failing PSU.
