Dell clean install problems

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with Dell System Optiplex 170L series and bios version A03.

After a nightmare trying to format and install XP Pro I eventually formatted the HD in another computer hoping put back into the Dell and install the OS.

I have set the boot sequence to CD Rom with the XP disk in but it is now telling me that "NTLDR" is missing and to restart.

What is NTLDR and is it possible to do a clean install on a DEll. I don't have any original backup disks.

Most Dell's have a restore/recovery partition accessed by F11 on startup.Though you may have lost this now if you formatted the drive.

Thanks for that. Looks like it was a boot sequence problem. OS installing now.
