Dell 17" monitor flickering

My Dell PC was on Vista, having had some trouble finally got rid of vista home and managed to get my good old XP Pro on.

My problem is if i scroll in a combo box, maximize or minimize, or any similiar actions the picture shown is very slow. infact it takes forever to scroll in a combo box. I have an install CD with drivers on. On vista i never once needed this cd, maybe i do now? If i do how can i install them?

PC is:

Dell Dimension E520 - built for vista now on XP
512Mb Ram
256mb NVidia (dxdiag cant find it)
3.06Ghz Intel C Duo
17" monitor

hope you can help my eyes are done in. I have also done monitor reset to factory settings, in Display properties theres no refresh rate, could it be my graphics card? Im now thinking my graphics card is it, dxdiag fails all for display.

what drivers do i use i dont know my model

sorry for the confusion cheers

Download and run click here you should then be able to find your graphics card, maybe under PCI in left-hand column.

I have just looked at my own NVidia card/driver using SIW - the Driver and Type etc is shown under Video/DirectX in the left-hand column.

All sorted, found some Nvidia drivers on my Dell CD. Cheers for the link Technotiger added it to my bookmarks.
