Deleting a rogue file

Hi
For some reason in my user folder where I keep my main docs, music and pics, there's a rogue file with the extension below. Not sure how it got there, probably an old online game my son used to play. But every time I try to highlight or right click on it to delete it, it closes the Explorer window down. Any ideas how I might get rid of it?
Thanks

File is:

jagex_runescape_preferences.dat

Is it worth trying the "old" method such as opening a DOS window and deleting from there ? If using XP, click on Run and type CMD. This will ope a window and then type Del followed by the path and file name of the file.

eg DEL C;\user folder\jagex_runescape_preferences.dat

Typed semi colon instead of colon in error , should be C:\......

Have you tried Deleting it in Safe Mode

Thanks for your suggestions. The Dos route didn't work iscanut, but woodchip's suggestion to try deleting it in Safe Mode worked fine. Must have been quite a corrupt file though, as when I went into recycle bin to empty it, it started closing down the recycle bin. However when I right clicked recycle bin and emptied it without opening it, it worked okay, so I am finally shut of it. Thanks for helping me find the solution.
