deleting old files

In the tips and Tricks item there's a section on deleting old files from the hard drive. It's referring to W98 and I've got XP.
The files I'm wondering about are *.log. when I searched this there were loads and some quite big.
Can someone give me the confidence to actually delete these? I don't want to upset the system just yet. Only had XP a couple of months.

I know this has been said to the point of being a cliché, but it really is good advice. If you still have several Gbytes of free space on your drive, why worry about a few Mbytes of *.log files?

Just use your new PC and enjoy it. If it start to slow down, or go wrong, that's the time to look for possible causes of the problems.

You can delete them with no problems, but they will immediately start building up again, don't worry
