Deleting and erasing files

I deleted a file 2 months ago and then used an eraser program last week (using the highest erase option 'Gutmann') to wipe free space and free clusters but, after using a data recovery program, the file is still there on disk. What can I do to permanently remove this data?

having cut it up into little pieces. most people are not that bothered but if you erase then defrag the disk and then load other stuff on the chances are the space previously occupied will be overwritten. But there is no guarantee that it could not be recovered. Sods law says if you accidently deleted it you will never be able to recover it.
