delete block of files from folder without emptying

hi, and thanks in advance for help received

how can i delete a block of files from folder without emptying the whole folder?
I can't work out how to do tho i'm sure it's easy!

Click on the first file in the block, hold down Shift and click the last file. The whole block will be selected. If the block contains any files you wish to keep, just hold down Ctrl and click individual files to deselect them. When you are happy with your selection, press Delete or right-click on the selection and choose Delete from the menu.

Remember that you can order the files by name, date etc to get the list in a format which suits. e.g. sort by date if you want to select all files created between certain dates.
