I have Windows ME running on a Mesh Matrix.
When I run defragment,it will not defragment, but gives me an error message to use scandisc first,so I use scandisc and the defragmentation, still will not work,it just runs and runs without getting anywhere.
HELP please, does anyone know how to fix this?

Try defraging in safe mode (press F8 at boot up)

Two options here. 1. Close all programmes running in the background before running defrag (the windows based defrag programme will start again every time a programme makes a change, eg. your anti virus programme makes a check etc.) or 2. run defrag in safe mode.

The better way though is to get something like Norton Systemworks and run Speed Disk. I have Norton Systemworks 2003 and run Speed Disk fairly regularly. It does both my 80gb hard drives in about 17 to 18 minutes each, regardless of what programmes are running in the background
