I tried to defrag and a message appeared that there was only 11% free space left and that 15% was the minimum space required on my 'c' drive to perform this and that I should delete unwanted files, any ideas how I find out which files are unwanted and why is this happening

Hi, Start>Programs>Accessories>SystemTools>Disk Cleanup ......... should do the trick.

Both Technotiger and Vog are right, disk clean up may release enough free space for the inbuilt windows defrag program to work and Diskeeper Lite will do the job with less free space because it is more efficient. As with any free program if you are happy with the results produced then pay for it, especially in the case of Diskeeper.
