Defrag problems on win..xp sp2

is there anyone out there who can help me, My comp..'s lost its will to defrag and comes up with a message... "the application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmcbase.DLL is not a valid Windows image. (mmc.exe-Bad Image)Running Windows XP Home sp2 Thanx.

If VoGs answer does`nt help, try A disc cleanup, then run cCleaner, followed by something like RegScrub and then try a defrag. Whatever you do all the best.
