Defrag problem

Recently I tried to optimise a sluggish machine (WIN XP. 512mb mem. 80gb hard drive - 16% free space, 64mb ATi card). I found the biggest problem was that in 5 years it had never been defragged. Using the windows analyser it showed amazing chunks of red fragmented files. Each attempt to defrag made little difference until I saved one of those reports to see what Windows had to say. The stumbling block was 7 video files downloaded from a camcorder (ranging in size from 1GB to 3GB)which could not be defragmented. What can I do to solve this? Thanks for your thoughts.
