I started to defrag my system and completed 10% but the defrag started from the beginning
It again completed 10% and the program froze also the mouse was not working.
I pressed Ctl+Alt+Del and a blue screen appeared
Pressed Ctl+Alt+Del as instructed to restart Computer.......System froze

I had to turn the computer off at the mains.

Can anyone help?

Hi Mike. You don't say what operating system you are using, or anything else about your system. Defragging needs quite a lot of spare drive space to store data while it is moving it around. One thing that I found helped in Windows 98 was to untick the box for "Rearrange files so my programs run faster". What is much better for Windows 98 is to use Diskeeper Lite - see this other thread click here

Thanks for your help. I have been able to defrag by Safe Mode
